The Boulder, Broomfield and Longmont areas had 18 girls make the Colorado High School Activities Association’s all-state cross country team.

Led by two-time Longmont Times-Call runner of the year Addy Ritzenhein, the Cougars had seven runners make the list, four on the first team. Boulder’s Kiki Vaughn, who is the Daily Camera’s ROY for a second straight year, was named to Class 5A’s second team.

Ritzenhein was CHSAA’s Class 4A runner of the year after she broke Norris Penrose Event Center’s 4A course record, helping lead the Cougars to their sixth-straight team title. She went on to win a national championship at Nike Cross Nationals last weekend.

Other first teamers for Niwot included Louisville commit Olivia Alessandrini (finished third at state), Sarah Perkins (fourth) and Wake Forest commit Mia Prok (sixth). Its second teamers were sophomores Avalon Beltran and Anna Prok, and senior Cayden Justice was an honorable mention.

Vaughn, a Northern Arizona commit, meanwhile, had the best state time for a local runner not from Niwot. She finished in 18:35.90 in Colorado Springs, claiming 14th. During the fall, she had three first-place finishes and a best time of 17:44.90.

Holy Family’s Anabella Descalzo was the only other local runner to make a first team. She took seventh at the 3A state meet in 19:17.20 and won the Northfield Nighthawk Invitational earlier in the season in 19:02.80.

Others to make a second team included Silver Creek junior Cloe Ruth, who finished 11th in 4A and had a season-best time of 17:58, as well as Holy Family senior Emmy Stoll, who was 14th in the 3A race.

Peak to Peak had two honorable mentions in sophomore Skye Williams and senior Harper Riss, who finished 24th and 28th in the 3A race.

Also honorable mentions, Boulder sophomore Anika Leovy broke 19 minutes in the 5A race, placing 22nd in 18:51.60. Fairview junior Sierra Wall took 27th in 5A and had a season-best time of 18:24. Monarch junior Sofie Donker was 19th in 5A and went on to post a time of 18:30.76 at Nike Cross Southwest Regionals in Arizona. Mead sophomore Ava Mierau was 27th in 4A and finished third at the Mead Stampede with a best time of 19:00.30. Lyons junior Leah Shelton was 24th in 2A.
