With the temperature at a new perfect level for outdoor events over the weekend, residents and patients of Woodland Skilled Nursing, along with a considerable amount of other curious community members, filled the law area of the nursing center located at 678 Third St. to enjoy some good old fashioned professional wrestling.
Scheduled and organized by Woodland Skilled Nursing’s Activities Director Jake Singh, Supreme Pro Wrestling, Sacramento’s longest-running wrestling company., came to Woodland on Saturday from 10 to noon and filled everyone in the community with joy as they either cheered on the babyfaces or jeered the heels.
“I’m a little sore, but I feel good,” Singh, who goes by the in-ring name ‘Bollywood Billionaire RJ Singh, said. “It was such a great event. There was a bigger turnout than the last one we did during Suplex Through History this past October.
For two hours, around two dozen professional wrestlers from Woodland, Hawaii, Reno, Modesto, and Sacramento competed in eight matches, captivating anyone within distance or earshot. Soda, nachos, hot dogs and candy were available for anyone hungry or thirsty.
“The more, the merrier, and the bigger the crowd, the more energy,” Sing said. “The energy they brought was amazing, and it makes you perform better when you have a hot crowd. The kids were awesome, and some of the patients got into it as well.
One of the patients, Margaret O., age 98, has been waiting for live wrestling to return since October. Margaret braved the sun for two hours to enjoy the show from the front row, at one point even kissing one of the performers on the hand.
“I would say the residents were all looking forward to this for a long time,” Singh said. “They said it was great to be outside and enjoy live pro wrestling. They really got the feel of it being a wrestling show. It’s important that they got to enjoy this in the comfort of their own community.”
Suppose you missed out on Saturday’s show. In that case, Singh mentions you are in luck as Woodland Skilled Nursing is set to welcome back Supreme Pro Wrestling on Saturday, October 7, for their Suplex Thorugh History Two, as a part of the city of Woodland’s annual Stroll Through History event beginning at 10 a.m.
“Come and experience live edge of your seat live pro wrestling,” Singh implored. “Only at Woodland Skilled Nursing.”
