Eastpointe Community Schools Board Trustee Cassie Gruenberg submitted her resignation on Jan. 13 according to an announcement released by Superintendent Christina Gibson on Wednesday.
Gruenberg cited health issues as the reason for her resignation.
The school board will appoint someone to fill the vacancy and is currently accepting applications. The appointee would serve the remainder of Gruenberg’s term, which ends Dec. 31, 2026.
Interested persons should submit a letter of interest and resume by 12 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24 to Wendy Kohlmann at wendy.kohlmann@eastpointeschools.org or deliver that information to the Eastpointe Community Schools Board of Education Office at 24685 Kelly Rd., Eastpointe, MI 48021.
The Eastpointe Community Schools Board will hold a special meeting Jan. 30. 1 p.m. at the Administrative Center to interview prospective candidates.
The first meeting for the new board member would be Feb. 10.
Gruenberg has served on the school board since 2023. Her husband, Jon Gruenberg, served on the Eastpointe Community Schools Board for more than 20 years and did not win his bid for reelection last November.
