The statistics that South Pasadena senior Kayla Boozer posted this basketball season were off the charts.
Boozer dominated in every way as she helped the Tigers earn a share of the Rio Hondo League title and finish the season with a 19-8 record.
The playoffs were a disappointment for the Tigers, who lost to eventual champion Keppel in the second round of CIF Southern Section Division 3AA.
But for Boozer, it was a season, and a high school career, to remember.
Boozer was among the CIF Southern Section leaders in scoring, at 26.2 points per game, and averaged 16.2 rebounds per contest. She also averaged 3.1 steals and 2.5 blocks.
She was the focal point of every defense she faced. Opponents often double- or triple-teamed her, trying to limit her production.
Over her four-year varsity career, Boozer averaged 19 points and 13 rebounds. She finished with 1,637 career points, the second-most in school history behind Dylan Tse, who graduated in 2024.
Boozer finished with 1,095 career rebounds.
She shared Rio Hondo League Player of the Year honors and was an All-CIF-SS Division 3AA first-team selection.
“Kayla was the ultimate team player,” South Pasadena coach Cody Masden said. “As a coach watching, it’s nice sometimes to just be able to sit back, watch and enjoy it.
“As far as absolute talent at South Pasadena, Kayla has to be at the top of the list. I have coached here the last 10 years and as an alum I have seen what has come through. Kayla is flat out the most talented player we’ve ever had. Had we not ran into a chainsaw called Mark Keppel, we probably would have had a historic season led by Kayla.”
Boozer had several notable games this season, including a season-high 45 points in a 67-59 win over Camarillo and 18 double-doubles. She had six 20-20 games, in which she scored at least 20 points to go with at least 20 rebounds.
Perhaps her most memorable game was against league rival La Cañada.
Boozer finished with 30 points, 23 rebounds and seven blocks in a 65-38 victory over the team that shared the league title with the Tigers.
