Tyreek Hill’s teammates and coaches were upset to see body camera footage showing a police officer yanking the Miami Dolphins receiver out of his sports car and forcing him face-first onto the ground during a traffic stop.
The incident outside the Dolphins’ stadium has drawn national attention. It has also led to conversations in the locker room among Hill’s teammates, some of whom privately shared their own personal experiences with police, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa said.
“It was a little emotional for me, hearing Tyreek’s voice in the footage,” Tagovailoa said Tuesday.
The video released by the Miami-Dade Police Department on Monday evening showed that the traffic stop hours before Miami’s season opener escalated quickly after Hill put up the window of his car.
Hill rolled down the driver’s side window and handed his license to an officer who had been knocking on the window. Hill then told the officer repeatedly to stop knocking before rolling the darkly tinted window back up.
After a back and forth about the window, the body camera video shows an officer pull Hill out of his car by his arm and head and then force him face-first onto the ground. Officers handcuffed Hill and one put a knee in the middle of his back.
Watson under investigation >> The NFL said Tuesday it is investigating a civil lawsuit filed against Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson for an alleged sexual assault that took place in 2020 while he played for Houston. Monday, a woman in Texas accused Watson of sexually assaulting her during an incident at her apartment four years ago. She claims Watson sexually forced himself on her for several minutes. She’s seeking $1 million in damages, according to the suit.
Craig nominated >> Former running back Roger Craig is among the players nominated in the Seniors category for the 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame class.
The Hall released a list of 183 nominees to be considered by a newly created Seniors Screening Committee. That group will reduce the list to 50 players over the next several weeks. A separate Seniors Blue Ribbon Committee will reduce that list to the three finalists to be considered by the full selection committee in early 2025. The three seniors will be grouped with one coach and contributor with at least one and no more than three of those finalists getting in based on voting.
Craig, who played with the Niners from 1983-90, was among the 10 players on this year’s list of nominees who made it to the seminal stage of 12 candidates last year when Steve McMichael and Randy Gradishar were voted in as seniors.
Peterson ordered to turn over assets >> Former NFL running back Adrian Peterson has been ordered by a Texas judge to turn over personal assets to help pay a debt that has ballooned to more than $12 million. Court-appointed receiver Robert Berleth has been seeking to collect money from Peterson as part of a judgment from a lawsuit filed against the four-time All-Pro over a $5.2 million loan he failed to repay to a Pennsylvania lending company. Since then, that debt has more than doubled due to interest and fees.

Scope of reviews expanded >> The NBA has expanded the scope of coach’s challenge reviews on some out-of-bounds plays, saying that if a foul should have been called on the play it now can be assessed shortly after the fact. The league’s Board of Governors approved the move after it was unanimously recommended by the league’s competition committee last week. The change will take effect this season.

Pochettino hired >> Former Tottenham and Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino was hired Tuesday to succeed Gregg Berhalter as U.S. men’s national team coach.

Pochettino has coached Espanyol in Spain (2009-12), Southampton (2013-14), Tottenham (2014-19) and Chelsea (2023-24) in England and Paris Saint-Germain in France (2021-22), leaving after winning a Ligue 1 title.

Report denied >> Colorado football coach Deion Sanders denied a report by a Denver radio station that he asked the school’s band not to play the fight song at Folsom Field after a score by Shedeur Sanders so his quarterback son’s theme music could run.
The school issued a statement denying the report that Sanders instructed the Colorado band to refrain from playing the fight song during a 31-26 win over North Dakota State during the season opener in Boulder. The stadium briefly played other pieces of music — including for Shedeur Sanders and kicker Alejandro Mata — before the band took over.
Motorsports
Larson to try again >> With NASCAR and the Coca-Cola 600 the promised priority, Kyle Larson will again attempt the Indianapolis 500 next season with the caveat he must leave if rain again ruins his bid to complete “The Double.” In May, Larson, an Elk Grove native, became the fifth driver in history to attempt to complete 1,100-miles of racing on the biggest day in motorsports. But the start of the Indy 500 was delayed several hours by rain, and because Hendrick Motorsports had spent so much money on the effort, they decided to keep him at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
