The city of Baldwin Park is hosting “Amanecer con Los Abuelos,” a sunrise celebration of life, on Saturday.

The event, at 6:30 a.m. at Susan Rubio Zocalo Park, invites local residents to gather to remember loved ones who have passed away.

The event will feature an adorned community altar, where attendees can place photos of family members and friends, organizers said.

Residents will tell stories, enjoy pan dulce and warm beverages while taking in the sunrise over the altar.

“I am truly looking forward to this early morning gathering to honor our beloved family and friends who have passed,” said Baldwin Park Mayor Emmanuel J. Estrada. “The community altar offers a wonderful chance for Baldwin Park to come together and reminisce. Together, we can create a vibrant tapestry of memories that celebrates those who have touched our lives.”

Organizer said Amanecer con Los Abuelos aims to foster connection and healing, while providing a space for residents to share memories and support one another in remembrance.

Organizers also encouraged attendees to bring their own stories and memories to share with others.

Photos for the altar can be submitted by emailing ARC@BaldwinParkCA.Gov or bringing them in person on the day of the event. To ensure every loved-one can be honored, there is a limit of one photo per person. The event goes to 8 a.m. The park is at 14349 E. Pacific Ave. For information, call (626) 813-5245, Ext. 351 or email ARC@BaldwinParkCA.Gov.
