The Saints fired coach Dennis Allen on Monday, a day after a road loss against the last-place Panthers extended the Saints’ losing streak to seven games — their longest since 1999.

Special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi, 54, was named the team’s interim coach for the final eight games of what is trending toward a fourth straight season without a playoff berth for the Saints (2-7).

Allen, 52, went 18-25 without a playoff appearance since taking over in 2022 after Sean Payton, the most successful coach in Saints history, began what turned out to be a one-season retirement from coaching.

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott reportedly is expected to miss several weeks with a hamstring injury. The 31-year-old three-time Pro Bowler is seeking a second opinion to confirm treatment options. Also, Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb has a sprained AC joint but the injury isn’t considered serious, and he’s expected to have a chance to play Sunday against the Eagles. ... The Raiders fired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy less than a year after hiring him. The team also let go of QBs coach Rich Scangarello and OL coach James Cregg.

Baseball: Giants 3B Matt Chapman won his fifth Gold Glove and Royals SS Bobby Witt Jr. was among 14 first-time winners. ... Dick Allen, Dave Parker and Luis Tiant are among eight men on the ballot for the baseball Hall of Fame’s classic era committee that meets Dec. 8 at the winter meetings in Dallas. The classic era committee considers players, managers, umpires and executives whose greatest contributions to the sport were before 1980. Parker, John and Garvey are the living candidates. Tiant died early last month at age 83.

College football: The Jacksonville (Fla.) Sheriff’s Office is reviewing online videos that show police officers punching fans during Saturday’s Florida-Georgia game at EverBank Stadium.
