I am a 68-year-old aggravated senior. I recently stopped at a gas station in Frankfort to buy a carton of cigarettes. The clerk asked for my identification. She said it’s a law now. I had to take my identification out of my wallet so she could scan it. A blind man could see that I’m well over 21 years old. Couldn’t the powers that be spend their time on laws that make more sense?
In reply to Mike from Bridgeview, you can defend Chicago Cub Anthony Rizzo all you want. You’re entitled to your opinion, but my opinion is that he and all these other superstars who make millions of dollars ... would never be able to handle a regular job like a regular guy does. Could you see yourself crying to your boss and saying, I’m working too many hours? You’d be sent out the door in a minute. They need to be put back in place. I think they need their salaries cut.

Child abuse in any form is the worst abuse of all, because a child is helpless. Every person reading this has known someone who was or is currently being abused. First, comfort the child. Blaming the victim compounds the abuse. Call social services or the authorities. Perpetrators must be prevented from wrecking more lives. The child should be given medical help from a doctor and emotional help from a therapist to heal from the trauma.

The month of April was designated as spring break and also featured cleanup week. It doesn’t matter how clean and beautiful your house is on the inside. It’s the upkeep on the outside that matters. Clean up old weeds. Remove any garbage, broken-down basketball equipment, and broken-down furniture and fences. The value of our homes should be one of the highlights of our lives along with having respect for others who are keeping up their properties.
