A man is missing after jumping off of Knight’s Landing Bridge and into the Sacramento River, sparking a search party that’s lasted over two days.

At around 7 p.m. on July 1, two men jumped off the Knights Landing Bridge connecting Yolo and Sutter counties. While one of the men was able to come to the surface unscathed, the other never emerged from the water. The Sutter County Sheriff’s Office said this wasn’t a suicide attempt, stating “bridge jumping was not uncommon behavior for these men.”

The Sheriff’s Dive Team, along with support from an external agency, responded and immediately conducted a search and recovery operation that continued into Wednesday.

Yolo County Supervisor Angel Barajas issued an “emergency update” for his constituents, detailing what happened and adding that dive teams are currently searching for the missing individual.

“(We send) our sincerest condolences are with the families,” he stated.
