Oakland County election officials have several upcoming events starting to show that election equipment is accurate and the voting process is secure.

Lisa Brown, the county’s clerk and register of deeds, is hosting the second of two town hall meetings on safeguarding elections, with the state Attorney General Dana Nessel and state Sen. Jeremy Moss, a Southfield Democrat.

“This is a great chance for voters to find out firsthand how officials at different levels and branches of government are working together to safeguard our elections,” Brown said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to discuss the many ways my team and I work to ensure that our elections are safe, secure, fair, and accurate.”

The town hall, titled “Defending Democracy,” is free and open to the public s 3:30 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, in the county’s board of commissioners auditorium, at 1200 N. Telegraph Road in Pontiac.

Doors open 30 minutes before each town hall. For details call (248) 858-0561.

Four public accuracy test dates will be done starting at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16; Thursday, Oct. 17; Friday, Oct. 18, for early voting counts, and 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, for absentee ballots.

“The public testing of election equipment is done before every election to ensure our elections are accurate and secure,” Brown said. “I encourage anyone with an interest in how our elections are administered to join us at one of these public accuracy tests and observe for yourself some of the measures taken to ensure our elections are secure and accurate.”

The tests are in the county’s board of canvassers training room at the Oakland County Courthouse, 1200 N. Telegraph Road in Pontiac. Attendees should use the building’s west entrance.
