Bonita girls basketball coach Taylor Anderson noted recently on the team’s social media account on X that Palomares League teams were 3-9 at home over the first 12 games in league play.

On any given night in the competitive league, anything can happen.

Glendora is in the Palomares League and is one of the area’s top teams, but it found itself in desperation mode heading into Tuesday’s showdown at Bonita. The Tartans earned some relief by pulling out a 40-35 victory to stay close in the league chase.

Glendora (14-6, 2-2), which has lost both its home games in league and has won twice in league on the road, is chasing league leaders Bonita (16-5, 3-1), Claremont (13-7, 3-1) and surging Diamond Bar (10-3, 3-1).

Had the Tartans lost Tuesday night, their climb back would have been much steeper.

“Two words we talked about were playing with urgency and desperation,” Glendora coach Adam Nunemaker said.

After the Tartans lost home games to Claremont and Diamond Bar last week, they needed a response.

“We can’t have anymore setbacks like that,” Nunemaker said.

Glendora’s Ronnie Herrmann led the way with 15 points to go with 10 rebounds. Brianna Gomez chipped in with 12 points.

Bonita’s Lexi Mercado led all scorers with 21 points.
