J.B. Baker Jr. of Live Oak died September 6, 2024, in Monterey, after fighting a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s/Dementia for nine years. J.B. was born November 3, 1940, in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He joined the US Navy at the age of 17 and proudly served for 9 years, seeing action in both Viet Nam and the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He worked for the County of Santa Cruz Health Department for 30 years, retiring in 2000.
J.B. was a volunteer coach, manager, and board member for Live Oak Little League for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years Sandra Baker, his son and daughter-in-law Jay Baker and Natalie Head of Sacramento, his daughter and son-in-law Miranda Baker and Peter Nelson of Felton, his sister Karen Yandell of Texas, and several nieces and nephews. He was also survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law (Jim and Jean Smith) of Saratoga, CA.
At his request J.B.’s ashes were returned to the sea, which always held a special place in his heart.
