Markham police are actively searching for a person involved in the shooting of an 8-year-old boy earlier this week in Markham.
Michael Taylor, spokesman for Markham, said the boy was shot at about 3 a.m. Tuesday in the 16500 block of Ashland Avenue. He was first brought to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, although Taylor said he believes the boy was transferred to another hospital. Taylor said the boy remains in stable condition and should make a full recovery.
“We can’t say too much right now, but know that Markham police continue to canvas the area) knocking on doors,” Taylor said. “Our detectives are making sure this case is at the forefront.”
Taylor would not give additional details, citing the ongoing investigation.
“But know we are trying to get to the bottom of this,” he said.
Taylor said this shooting comes not even a year after another 8-year-old boy, Demetrius Stevenson, was shot and killed in Markham. That shooting happened outside Stevenson’s home in the 15700 block of Homan Ave. Sept. 27, 2021.
“It’s just so sad,” Taylor said. “The mayor sends his prayers out to both of these families.”
The city asks anyone who may have witnessed or seen anything around the time of the shooting to call the Markham police at 708-331-2171.
