For the second straight game, St. Ignatius found a way to come up clutch in extra innings.

After beating Bellarmine in eight innings on Tuesday, the Wildcats squeezed out a 2-1 decision over Valley Christian on Friday in extras to climb into second place in the West Catholic Athletic League standings, one game behind first-place Serra.

With one out and runners on first and second the bottom of the eighth, DJ Delaney hit a line drive single to left field, scoring Stanford commit Archer Horn to win the game.

The pitching trio of Finn Demuth, Tycco Giometti and Eddie McCartney combined to strike out seven and give up six hits as Valley Christian’s explosive offense was held in check.

The Warriors’ lone run came in the top of the fifth when Quinten Marsh scored Forest Zelmer.

The teams played each other again on Saturday in San Jose to finish the two-game series.

St. Ignatius improved to 14-7-2, 8-3. Valley Christian dropped to 18-5-1, 7-4.

No. 3 Granada 4, No. 13 Dublin 1: Senior pitcher Tyler Kennedy turned in another outstanding performance to help Granada complete a season sweep of Dublin in East Bay Athletic League play.

Kennedy struck out 11 and allowed three hits and an earned run in six innings. Senior Estevan Duarte was 3 for 3 and scored a run.

Granada (18-4, 10-1) is a game ahead of second-place De La Salle in the EBAL standings.

Dublin (16-7, 5-7) lost its fifth straight game.

No. 6 Los Gatos 12, Gunn 0: Los Gatos used a five-run second inning to blank Gunn at home in Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division play.

Hudson Schrader and Justin Mazzaferro each knocked in two runs as the Wildcats improved to 18-3, 10-0 while stretching their win streak to 11.

Ethan Williams and Matt Ludeman combined to strike out 10 and allow two hits. Ludeman picked up his fourth win of the season.

No. 20 Castro Valley 2, Encinal 0: Castro Valley moved one step closer to a West Alameda County Conference Foothill Division title with a win over Encinal.

Owen Seidel struck out nine and allowed just one hit across six innings to notch his fifth win of the season. Castro Valley just needs to split next week’s two-game series against Alameda to capture the WAC Foothill Division regular season title for the first time in at least 20 years.

Castro Valley struggled to find a rhythm early as Encinal pitcher Anthony Wilson retired Castro Valley’s first eight batters, four of which were by strikeout.

But that all changed in the top of the third inning when senior left fielder Arthur Sims came up to bat. With two outs and two runners on, Sims drilled a pitch to the left field wall that scored Anthony and Diego Mares to put Castro Valley on the board. Wilson finished Friday’s game striking out nine and allowing five hits — two of which came by Sims — in a complete game effort.

Oakland Tech 6, Skyline 5: The Bulldogs erased a three-run deficit in the top of the fifth inning to beat Skyline and win the Oakland Athletic League regular-season title.

Senior Hayden Burton hit a walk-off single in the home half of the seventh to complete Tech’s comeback. Burton went 2 for 4 and had two RBIs.

Tech improved to 14-9, 5-1. Skyline dropped to 9-12, 4-1.

Softball

No. 9 Mills 3, No. 6 Notre Dame-Belmont 2: Mills avenged an earlier loss to Notre Dame as the Vikings scored on an error in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win in Peninsula Athletic League Ocean Division play.

Audrey Jang and Sofia Kwan each recorded an RBI in the win.

Notre Dame pitcher Allison Lui struck out eight across six innings.

Mills improved to 17-3-1. Notre Dame is now 15-4-1.

No. 14 Alameda 10, No. 19 Bishop O’Dowd 0: Alameda looked utterly dominant as the Hornets blanked Bishop O’Dowd at home in a West Alameda County Conference Foothill Division game.

Aaliyah Soderlund was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a home run. Sophomore Mia Wong was 4 for 4 and knocked in four runs.

Alameda (13-8-1) finishes the regular season with road games against Castro Valley and Encinal. O’Dowd dropped to 15-6, 2-3.

El Cerrito 19, Kennedy-Richmond 0: El Cerrito made quick work of its Tri-County Athletic League Stone Division opponent, defeating Kennedy in five innings by mercy rule.

Freshman Arlie Tatum had two home runs and recorded four RBIs. Fellow freshman Natalia Gawlikowski was 2 for 2 with a home run and six RBIs.

El Cerrito improved to 17-2, 12-0. Kennedy is 2-9-1, 2-8-1.
