UCLA’s football program has gained a second Iamaleava at quarterback.

Madden Iamaleava, the younger brother of Nico Iamaleava, officially transferred to UCLA on Monday.

Madden, a 6-foot-3, 191-pound early enrollee, was recruited by the Bruins as a four-star recruit out of Long Beach Poly High but flipped his commitment to Arkansas on signing day.

Madden backed up his older brother as a dual-threat quarterback while playing at Warren High and went on to throw for 3,626 yards and 43 touchdowns with four interceptions in the 2023 season. He did not play during his senior year at Long Beach Poly after being denied eligibility by the CIF Southern Section following his in-season transfer.

The move adds to a flurry of transfer activity at quarterback that has taken place over the past two days at UCLA. Nico Iamaleava, who helped lead Tennessee to a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff last fall, officially transferred to UCLA on Sunday. Then Monday, backup UCLA QB Joey Aguilar completed a swap of sorts by transferring from UCLA to Tennessee.

Aguilar had originally joined the Bruins during the offseason after two successful seasons at Appalachian State.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Duke star Cooper Flagg is headed to the NBA as the favorite to be the No. 1 overall draft pick.

The program announced Flagg’s move in a social media post following a lone college season that saw the 18-year-old become only the fourth freshman named as The Associated Press national player of the year while leading the Blue Devils to the Final Four.

Flagg had reclassified to get to Duke a year early, and his decision was expected all year, even as he generally declined to spell out plans about his professional future as the season pushed into March or mentioned how much fun he had playing in college.

“I mean, it’s been an incredible year with a really great group of people,” Flagg told the AP in March after winning national player of the year.

The 6-foot-9, 205-pound forward from Newport, Maine, averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.4 steals to lead the Blue Devils in each category. He’s a versatile threat who showed the ability to thrive as a scorer, playmaker and defender.

“His highlights, his statistics, the ways he impacted the game on both ends of the floor, really in every category, was off the charts — as good of a freshman season that a guy has had here,” Duke coach Jon Scheyer said in a social media video from the program about Flagg’s NBA declaration.

TENNIS

Jelena Ostapenko upset No. 1-ranked Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 6-1 in the Porsche Grand Prix final in Stuttgart, Germany.

Ostapenko beat Sabalenka for the first time in four meetings to win her first clay-court title since the 2017 French Open.

She also beat world No. 2 Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals in her run to her ninth career title.

“I’m really, really happy with my performance in general this week,” Ostapenko said. “I was ready to play every single player, because the draw here is so small. You have to be ready for the best, and I did that.

“I think the game was already very good but I have been working on my mental stuff. I understand what I have to do now. I believe in myself.”

The Latvian broke Sabalenka six times, twice in the first set.

In the second set, Sabalenka won just 10 points and only five on serve.

Sabalenka has lost four Stuttgart finals.

NFL

The Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles and Pro Bowl center Cam Jurgens agreed to a four-year contract extension through 2029, the team announced.

Jurgens, 25, made the Pro Bowl for the first time last season following a switch back to center after six-time All-Pro Jason Kelce retired. Jurgens was a backup as a rookie in 2022 after being drafted out of Nebraska in the second round and made 11 starts at right guard in 2023.

Philadelphia went 14-3 last season and dominated Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in winning its second Super Bowl title. The Eagles, led by mobile quarterback Jalen Hurts and a strong offensive line, rushed for a franchise-record 3,048 yards last season.

A young woman who says she was raped and threatened by retired NFL player Shannon Sharpe during a “rocky consensual relationship” filed a civil lawsuit against him seeking $50 million in damages.

Attorneys filed the lawsuit Sunday in Clark County, Nevada, for a woman listed in court documents as Jane Doe. The lawsuit also accuses Sharpe of using physical force on her and inflicting emotional distress.

The woman first met Sharpe at a gym in Los Angeles in 2023 when she was 20 and a nearly two-year relationship followed, according to court documents. Sharpe, 56, is accused of raping the woman in October 2024 and again in January, court documents said.

Sharpe posted a statement from his lawyer on X saying the relationship was consensual and calling the lawsuit a “blatant and cynical attempt to shake down” Sharpe for millions of dollars.

“It is filled with lies, distortions, and misrepresentations — and it will not succeed,” Lanny J. Davis said in the statement posted by Sharpe.

Sharpe is accused of becoming increasingly verbally abusive, controlling and violent over time, once threatening to kill her and recording their sexual encounters without consent, according to the complaint.

“Sharpe flew into fits of anger when Plaintiff noted his infidelity to their relationship, or called him out about his extraneous activities,” the lawsuit said. “Sharpe even figured out how to get into Doe’s apartment complex without her permission.”

Sharpe was a four-time All-Pro tight end who played on two Super Bowl champions with Denver and another with Baltimore over 14 seasons from 1990 to 2003. He was voted into the Hall of Fame in 2011.
