Michael Pezzetta scored the decisive shootout goal and the Montreal Canadiens avoided playoff elimination by rallying to a 4-3 win over the Sabres on Monday night in Buffalo.

Brendan Gallagher forced overtime by scoring his 200th career goal in capping a 3-on-2 rush with a shot from the right circle 8:35 into the third period. Jordan Harris and Alex Belzile also scored for Montreal, and Jake Allen stopped 30 shots through overtime, while allowing one goal on six shootout tries.

Islanders 5, Devils 1 >> Kyle Palmieri had two goals and an assist, Ilya Sorokin made 30 saves for the host Isles.

Senators 5, Panthers 2 >> Brady Tkachuk had a goal and an assist, Mads Sogaard stopped 32 shots for the host Senators.

New CEO for Flyers >> Dave Scott will retire as chairman of the Philadelphia Flyers’ parent company Comcast Spectacor and be replaced by Dan Hilferty on April 17. Scott joined Comcast Spectacor in December 2013 and the Flyers have struggled under his reign. They will miss the playoffs for a third straight season.

Sabres Player boycotts Pride observations >> Ilya Lyubushkin cited an anti-gay Kremlin law and fears of retribution at home in Russia for electing not to participate in the Buffalo Sabres’ pregame warmup on the team’s Pride night, when players wore rainbow-colored jerseys in support of the LGBTQ+ community.
