




Junior Lia Gularte scored a hat trick, and Santa Cruz High’s girls soccer team earned a 3-1 win over San Lorenzo Valley in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play in Felton on Tuesday.
“Lia is finding her stride and is becoming the force, leader I knew she could be,” Cardinals coach Poul Schiebel said.
Junior Hayden Kriege, sophomore Bella Talbott, and freshman Carly Baron earned assists for the Cardinals (5-6-1 overall, 3-2-0 SCCAL), who led 2-0 at the half.
Senior Naomi Sifton scored for the Cougars (2-8-0, 1-4-0), who feature just three senior starters, on a free kick from 30 yards out in the 60th minute.
SLV senior goalie Cheyenne Casey made three saves.
Senior goalie Maeve Golliher made four saves for the Cardinals, who are 5-2-0 in their past seven matches. Golliher replaced starting goalie Ari Flores, who was out with the flu.“Maeve jumped in and played great,” Schiebel said. “The girls are really starting to gel as a team. They’re learning to trust and have confidence in each other.”
On Thursday, SLV plays at Soquel (9-3-1, 4-1-0) at 6 p.m., and Santa Cruz hosts Harbor (0-11-0, 0-5-0) at 7 p.m.
At Aptos 5, Harbor 0 >> Alexa Castaneda scored three goals in a 24-minute span, and the Mariners did all their scoring in the second half of their SCCAL win Tuesday.
Scarlet Stateler had a goal and two assists for the Mariners (10-2-0, 5-0-0), and Gigi Zuniga also scored, on a free kick from 18 yards out. Emily Santiago also had an assist.
Goalie Athena Forbus made 10 saves for the Pirates (0-11-0, 0-5-0).
Goalkeeper Evelyn Pini made one save to help the Mariners recorded their third straight shutout and eighth overall.
On Thursday, Aptos plays at Scotts Valley (5-5-3, 2-3-0) at 3:30 p.m., and Harbor plays at Santa Cruz (5-6-1, 3-2-0) at 7 p.m.
At Soquel 1, Scotts Valley 0 >> Isela Gonzalez scored the decisive goal on a cross from Trinity Wilson, and the Knights posted a shutout in SCCAL play Tuesday.
Scotts Valley (5-5-3, 2-3-0) had nine shots on goal and Soquel (9-3-1, 4-1-0) had three.
Knights coach Jose Sierra gave a shout out to defender Chloe Izenstark, who filled in for ill star Chloe McGilvray, and the rest of his defense, Hailey Betterman, Ashlyn Brady, Milana Flores, and goalie Bethany Mansfield, for posting the shoutout.
On Thursday, Soquel host SLV (2-8-0, 1-4-0) at 6 p.m., and Scotts Valley plays at Aptos (10-2-0, 5-0-0) at 7 p.m.
Pajaro Valley 3, at North Monterey County 3 >> Senior Valeria Acosta scored twice, raising her season goal total to 34, but the Grizzlies endured a draw in their Pacific Coast Athletic League Mission Division match Tuesday.
Junior Jocelyn Juarez also scored for the division leading Grizzlies (13-1-1, 6-0-1), who led 2-1 at the half. Scarelt Gomez had two assists.
Goalies Kendra Rivas and Denise Magallon each made three saves for the Grizzlies.
Isavela Valadez, Andrea Ibarra, and Anahi Flores scored for the second-place Condors (11-2-2, 4-1-2).

Aptos 67, at Scotts Valley 54 >> Senior forward Isaiah Ackerman with 26 points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks, and the Mariners remained unbeaten in SCCAL play Tuesday.
Senior guard Nick Tovani scored 19 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field for the Mariners (16-4, 6-0), who led 37-30 at the half. Senior center Owen Warmerdam scored 10 points, and senior guard Ryan Solorio had five points and seven assists.
Jacob Sanders had 18 points, 13 rebounds, and five blocks for the Falcons (9-11, 3-3). Will Shilling also scored 18 points, and his twin brother Zach Shilling scored 11 points.
On Friday 7 p.m., Aptos hosts SLV (4-14, 0-6), and Scotts Valley plays at Harbor (6-13, 1-5).
At Santa Cruz 78, Harbor 29 >> Junior forward DeMarco Hunter had 21 points, 15 rebounds, and four steals, and the Cardinals won their SCCAL game Tuesday.
Sophomore guard L.J. Legan made four 3s and scored 16 points for the Cardinals (11-8, 5-1), who led 42-11 at the half. Senior forward Guerande Houssin, a transfer from Harbor, made two 3s and scored 15 points against his former teammates.
Sophomore guard Malik Wooden scored 10 points for the Pirates (6-13, 1-5).
On Thursday at 7 p.m., Santa Cruz hosts Soquel, while Harbor hosts Scotts Valley (9-11, 3-3).
At Soquel 82, SLV 27 >> Tyler Harway scored 15 points and teammate Nolen Westfall scored 14 in the Knights’ SCCAL win Tuesday.
D’Rell Hopkins scored 13 points for the Knights (10-10, 3-3), who led 39-9 at the half. Conner Corlett chipped in with 10 points.
Lonan Dickinson scored nine points to lead the Cougars (4-14, 0-6).

St. Francis 71, at King City 33 >> Nash Horton was one rebound shy of a triple-double in the Sharks’ PCAL Cypress Division win Tuesday.
Horton, who is committed to Pepperdine for baseball, made five 3-pointers and scored 31 points, He also had 10 steals, nine rebounds, and six assists.
Robert Gomez scored nine points for the Sharks (16-3, 7-0), who led 35-9 at the half. Jacob Jimenez had two points and eight rebounds.
Antonio Rodriguez scored 16 points for the Mustangs (2-14, 1-6). Cesar Celedon scored 11 points.

At Scotts Valley 58, Aptos 40 >> Senior center Claire Skinner scored 15 points, and the Falcons beat the Mariners for the second time in SCCAL play to remain unbeaten in league on Tuesday.
Guards Hanna Shehorn and Sammy Rebbert each scored 14 points for the Falcons (16-2, 6-0), who led 27-13 at the half.
Abby Sherwood made three 3-pointers and scored a game-high 19 points for the Mariners (11-9, 3-3). Emi Gansauer-Pilcher made two 3s and scored nine points.
On Thursday at 5:30 p.m., Scotts Valley plays at Harbor (1-14, 0-6), while Aptos hosts SLV (9-10, 1-5).
At Santa Cruz 67, Harbor 12 >> Nadia Delgadillo scored a game-high 16 points, and the Cardinals won their SCCAL game Tuesday.
Mila Conn had 13 points, six assists, four rebounds, and three steals for the Cardinals (10-9, 5-1), and Karolina Espinosa had 13 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Ania Snnott had nine points and five rebounds, and Alden Brooke scored eight points.
The Cardinals outscored the Pirates 27-2 in the second half.
Julianne Sanguinetti scored seven points to lead the Pirates (1-14, 0-6).

At Hollister 68, Watsonville 64, OT >> Fernanda Lazo had 12 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks, but the Wildcatz lost in overtime and dropped into a tie for the PCAL Gabilan Division lead on Tuesday.
Stephanie Martinez had 14 points, six rebounds, and three steals for the Wildcatz, and Itzury Vazquez made three 3-pointers and scored nine points.
Watsonville (15-4, 5-2) hosts Everett Alvarez (4-10, 0-6) to open a three-game homestand on Thursday at 7 p.m.
St. Francis 54, at King City 39 >> Freshman guard Liliana Whitmeyer finished with a game high 24 points, four rebounds, and three assists in the Sharks’ PCAL Cypress Division game on Tuesday.
Sophomore guard Maya Calfee scored 11 points, five rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks for the Sharks (17-2 8-0). Freshman guard Keira Grio had 10 points, three steals and two rebounds. Senior Maeve Flynn chipped in with five points and two assists.
Amity Hearne scored a team-high 13 points for the Mustangs (6-12, 5-3).

At Pacific Collegiate 55, Santa Catalina 14 >> Senior guard Addie Payne had 15 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, and five blocks in the Pumas’ PCAL Cypress Division win Tuesday.
Sophomore forward Kat Buckley had 13 points and seven rebounds for the Pumas (9-7, 5-3), and sophomore guard Nina Gramkowski had eight points and six steals.

At Stevenson 58, MVC 26 >> Senior Sophia Cortes and sophomore teammate Emily Madison each scored 10 points, but the Mustangs dropped their third straight PCAL Mission Division game on Tuesday.
Jessie Chen scored a game-high 18 points for the Pirates (15-4, 4-2).

At MVC 2, PCS 0 >> Enzo Owens scored twice, and the Mustangs won their first PCAL Cypress Division match of the season on Tuesday.
Saiyur Patel assisted the first goal. Goalie Matteo Montenegro made seven saves for the Mustangs.
MVC (4-8-3, 1-5-1) earned nine corner kicks and PCS (2-4-6, 1-3-3) earned three.
MVC hosts Gonzales (9-3-2, 5-1-0) on Thursday at 5:45 p.m. PCS hosts Soledad (4-6-3, 3-2-2) on Monday at 3:30 p.m.

Diablo Valley 9, at Cabrillo 6, 10 inn. >> The Seahawks, after tying the score in the bottom of the ninth, gave up three runs in the 10th inning and lost their nonconference game Tuesday.
Jacob Fiorenza had two of the Seahawks’ seven hits. Truett Ross and Nico Hilger each had a hit, RBI, and run scored. Carlos Cruz Mar and Oscar Knapp each had a hit and run scored. Trez Uemoto had a hit and RBI, Kaiden Hoapili had an RBI and run scored. Malakai DuBreuil had an RBI and Jay Patterson scored a run.
Brady Liden took the loss in relief, and Nicholas Meadows earned the win.
Cabrillo (0-2) will complete a doubleheader at Mendocino (1-2) on Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
