Trey Silva and Javier Fonseca hit home runs, and the St. Francis High baseball team beat San Lorenzo Valley 13-3 in nonleague play in Watsonville on Wednesday.
The game was called after five innings on the mercy rule.
Silva and Fonseca each had three RBI and scored twice. Teammate Pedro “Jr.” Ibarra had two hits, three RBI, and scored a run.
Micah Cervantes had two hits, one RBI, and three runs scored for St. Francis. Nash Horton had two hits, one RBI, and two runs scored, and Donovan Dominguez had a hit, RBI, and scored twice.
Cody Houston hit a double and had two RBI for the Cougars. Jayden Sharby and Brody Egnar scored runs.
Ibarra, the winning pitcher, threw three innings for the Sharks, and Evan Dyer threw two scoreless frames. They combined for nine strikeouts and four walks.
SLV (0-3-1) plays at Watsonville (0-3) on Thursday at 5 p.m., and St. Francis (1-0) hosts Aptos (1-2) on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
At Soquel 7, Alvarez 5 >> The Knights scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally past the Eagles in the teams’ nonleague game Wednesday.
Sophomore Jake Escalante had two hits, including a triple, and three RBI for the Knights. Classmate Cash Moran had a hit, RBI, and scored twice.
The Knights (3-1) play at St. Ignatius (3-0) on Saturday at noon.
At Salinas 2, Santa Cruz 1 >> Evan Le had hit an RBI in the Cowboys’ narrow, nonleague win over the Cardinals on Wednesday.
The Cardinals tied the score in the top of the seventh inning, but the Cowboys scored the walk-off run in the bottom half of the inning.
The Cardinals (0-2), who have a pair one-run losses, hosts Pacific Grove on Saturday at noon.
