Rekha Roy 86 Concord With heartfelt loss, the Roy family announces the passing of Rekha Roy at the age of 86. Rekha was born, the youngest daughter of five children, to the Boses, a Bengali family in Jamshedpur, India on January 1st, 1939. While attending school, she became an accomplished Bharat Natyam dancer, having performed for then, Indian Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru at the capital. She graduated school and trained in Montessori childhood education in Kolkata, India. She met and married her husband of 54 years, Civil Engineer, Arun Kumar Roy, on Dec 19, 1963. The couple had one child, a boy, Arjun Roy in 1966. In 1972, Arun Roy immigrated to the United States, joining Kaiser Engineering. In 1973, Rekha Roy and her son joined her husband in the United States, settling in the Northern California, Bay Area. Rekha Roy shaped and touched many lives as a Montessori teacher at various schools in the Bay Area. She was loved by her students and respected by early childhood educators in the community.

She was thrilled by many a former student and parent who would run into her long after Rekha had played a part in their lives.

She was a consistent figure in the Bengali community, in support of cultural arts and performances. Rekha Roy passed away inWalnut Creek, California onAugust 4th, 2025, at 5:19 PM, PST.

She was with family members at the time of passing.

She is survived by her son, Arjun Roy, beloved daughter-in-law, Tapashi Dev Roy, and the apples of her eye, grandsons, Rubin Dev Roy, and Rushil Dev Roy.
