Two Sebastopol men in a white pickup truck were arrested on Christmas Eve after the driver was seen “spinning doughnuts,” then struck a kiosk in the parking lot at Dillon Beach, according to authorities.
Dennis LaRose, 25, was arrested on suspicion of intoxicated driving and hit-and-run for leaving the parking lot after hitting the kiosk late Sunday afternoon, said Officer David deRutte of the California Highway Patrol.
His passenger, 29-year-old Connor Roush, was arrested for suspected public intoxication.
After hitting the kiosk, LaRose drove east on Dillon Beach Road before pulling over, according to authorities.
Members of the Marin County Fire Department found LaRose and Roush there “semiconscious and uncooperative.”
Unable to gain access to the vehicle’s occupants, firefighters called in the CHP.
CHP’s H-30 helicopter, based out of the Napa County Airport, was summoned around 5:30 p.m., according to a Sunday post on social media by the CHP’s Golden Gate Division Air Operations.
After landing in a field near the scene, the chopper’s flight officer/paramedic “was able to make contact with the occupants,” according to the post.
When CHP arrived, one of the firefighters had already taken the keys out of the pickup truck, said deRutte, who described the truck’s occupants as “combative, argumentative” and “very intoxicated.”
While declining to share the driver’s blood alcohol content, deRutte said LaRose was “well, well, well over the legal limit,” while Roush was “even worse off.”
Both men were transported by ambulance to Petaluma Valley Hospital in Petaluma.
After being arrested, Roush stayed in the hospital, “because he needed some care,” said deRutte. “Not due to injuries, but because of his level of intoxication.”
After his release, LaRose was booked into Marin County Jail where he was booked.
