After posting a 1-13 MCAL record last season, the Tam High softball team is making a serious push for the playoffs following a win over last year’s regular-season champ San Rafael plus another victory against a Terra Linda team that entered the week without a loss.

Archie Williams stayed unbeaten in league play in softball and has a win streak going in baseball. The softball teams from Marin Catholic and San Marin both picked up big wins last week, with MC’s coming at San Marin’s expense.
Elsewhere, Redwood topped Marin Academy in a girls lacrosse showdown before MA turned around and took down Tam in another highly anticipated matchup.
The Redwood boys volleyball team is cruising toward the league title while Novato is making a push for the playoffs.
The Terra Linda boys swim team appears to be on track to defend its MCAL title from last season while the Tam girls — last season’s runners up — are off to another strong start.
Eden Clark and Ava Lee, Tam softball >> The Red-tailed Hawks put the MCAL on notice last week, posting wins over San Rafael and Terra Linda while also pushing Redwood to the limit in a 4-3 loss. Clark allowed just two hits while striking out nine to shut out San Rafael 1-0 on Wednesday. Lee survived a tough first inning then got rolling, striking out 14 hitters in a complete-game effort in a 13-4 victory against Terra Lind on Friday. Lee also excelled at the plate against TL, going 3 for 4 with five RBIs, including a three-run homer.
Sam Singer and Paige Murphy, Archie Williams softball >> Singer and Murphy combined to ensure that the Peregrine Falcons would be the last unbeaten team standing in the MCAL following wins against San Rafael and Terra Linda. Murphy was dominant inside the circle against the Bulldogs, allowing just two hits and an unearned run against 15 strikeouts in a 6-1 victory. Singer helped turn the tide against TL, which led 2-0 after the first inning, by hitting a go-ahead, three-run homer in the top of the third. All told, Singer had three hits, drove in four runs, and scored three times as Archie Williams rolled to a 15-2 victory.
Henry Hanavan, Archie Williams baseball >> Hanavan hit his first and second home runs of the season to help guide the Peregrine Falcons to a 3-0 week with a sweep against Branson and a 7-0 victory against Maria Carrillo. Hanavan drove in a run in the first game against the Bulls, hit a two-run shot in the second game, then capped his week with a three-run homer against Maria Carrillo on Saturday.
Dexter Jackson, San Rafael baseball >> Jackson collected his third hit of the game — a go-ahead, two-run home run in the top of the seventh — to rally the Bulldogs for a 5-4 victory against Redwood on Friday.
Lauren Fong and Taylor Testa, San Marin softball >> San Marin’s shortstop and pitcher put together a pair of strong games as the Mustangs went 1-1 with a 3-2 loss to Marin Catholic followed by a 10-0 win against Redwood. Fong drove in a pair of runs in both games, including a two-run single to get the Mustangs on the board against the Giants. Testa pitched both games, limiting Redwood to three hits across five shutout innings. Testa also drove in three runs, including a two-run double to put her team in front 4-0.
Anna Held and Malliah Foster, Marin Catholic softball >> Foster started both games inside the circle as MC secured a 3-2 win against San Marin and an 18-1 win against Novato. Foster allowed nine hits and two runs — one earned — against San Marin, but crucially worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh inning to earn the victory. Held had two hits and two RBIs against San Marin then put together a four-hit, four-RBI, three-run game against Novato.
Beckett Shewey, Redwood boys volleyball >> Shewey put up 20 kills, seven aces, and four blocks as the league-leading Giants rallied for a five-set win over its closest competitor — a 22-25, 22-25, 25-16, 25-7, 15-7 victory against Tam on Thursday. The Giants improved their MCAL record to 10-0 and have swept second-place Tam (6-2).

Martinez, an outside hitter, had 18 kills against the Mustangs, eight against the Peregrine Falcons, and nine against MC while averaging 10 digs across the three games.
