If you’re in St. Paul hunting for a copy of your vehicle’s title, a crash report, disability plates, a fishing license, a Real ID or enhanced driver’s license, don’t head to the former state licensing bureau on University Avenue.

The Minnesota Driver and Vehicle Services licensing office has left its former perch by Sunrise Banks at 200 W. University Ave. for new digs at 800 Transfer Road, near the former Midway Amtrak Station. The site, which opened in early January after the previous lease in the bank building near the state Capitol expired, represents the office’s second relocation since leaving the old Sears store on Rice Street at the end of 2018.

The new site, located within a Transfer Road office mall, sits about a mile from the nearest Green Line light rail stop and about a half-mile, or 10-minute walk, from the nearest bus stop. The location is open Monday through Saturday, including Saturday afternoons until 4:30 p.m.

Looking to print your license plate registration tabs in a hurry? Rather than mail in payment or head to a DVS counter, you might consider a trip to the grocery store instead.DVS has partnered with Cub Foods since at least November 2023 to offer instant license plate tab renewals through automated, ATM-like kiosks at multiple Cub sites across the metro and in Rochester. Those kiosks have since expanded to 19 locations, and now include the Cub Foods at 1440 W. University Ave. in St. Paul, near Allianz Field, as well as other Cub stores in Apple Valley, Blaine, Maplewood, Minneapolis, Oakdale, St. Anthony, Stillwater, West St. Paul and White Bear Lake, to name a few.

The kiosks, which require a credit card or debit card, print out tabs, receipts and supporting documents on site. You’ll need to provide your license plate number, your insurance provider’s name and policy number with expiration date, the name of the county in which the vehicle is kept and the last three characters of the vehicle identification number. Also required is either an account ID number from your renewal notice or your house address.

More information about the kiosks is online at minnesotadvsnow.com.
