Medford, MA Mr. James E. Cokash passed away on March 17, 2025. He was 90. James was born in Pawtucket, RI, in 1935 and grew up in Medford, MA. He graduated from Framingham Trade School and worked for The Boston Globe for many years as a typesetter.

At the age of 3, James contracted polio, and in the facilities where he was treated for his illness, everyone could see what a wonderful person he was. Due to his health, he, his mom Victoria, and his sister Carol headed west in their RV in 1971. Eventually they settled in Oceanside, CA. For the last eight years, Jim resided in “The Villages,” as killed nursing facility in Hemet, CA, where he was dearly loved and will be missed.

Jim was an excellent Scrabble player and loved music. He played both the acoustic and slide guitar, the keyboard, and the harmonica. Jim enjoyed telling a gentle joke or two, which often involved word play.

Jim was predeceased by his father, Henry, his mother, Victoria, his brothers Henry and William, and his sister, Carol. He is survived by his sister Martha Cokash Nelson, as well as many nieces, nephews, and, never to be forgotten, are the many close friends who loved him.

Wherever James lived, he was known for his smile and loving, gentle personality. Anyone who spent time with him experienced a warm sense of calm and peace. Jim was a hero, a son, a brother, an uncle, and a mentor.
