Resident of Castro Valley
Teacher, musician, world traveler, computer whiz, photographer, a seeker of truth and knowledge, Paul MacFarlane, had a curious and creative mind with a quiet presence and a wry sense of humor. As a person, he was distinguished by his care for others.
A longtime Castro Valley resident, Paul was born in 1951 to Virginia MacFarlane Campbell and Fred O.
MacFarlane in Sacramento, California.
Paul graduated in 1969 from Castro Valley HS, where he thrived in the instrumental music program.
Paul’s truest joy was in sharing his knowledge. With a degree from UC Davis, he taught for 30 years at Hayward USD including a 5th &6th grade class for talented and gifted students at Schafer Park. Upon retirement, Paul taught English full time to graduate students at China’s University of Tianjin, 2008-16.
Paul is survived by his mother, and sister, Abbe MacFarlane; predeceased by his father.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Friday, April 11, 2025 at 1pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley.
