Gophers 65, Southern Methodist 56 >> Annika Steward and Taylor Woodson had 18 points each Sunday as Minnesota defeated SMU in the finale of the Briann January Classic in Tempe, Ariz.
Mara Braun chipped in 13 points for the Gophers, who remained unbeaten at 5-0
The Gophers’ defense was key in dropping the Mustangs to 2-3. They forced 18 turnovers, committing only seven.
Grace Grocholski nabbed a game-high 13 rebounds to lead Minnesota and Mallory Heyer added 10.
