After wrapping up the end of the regular season with accompanying winning streaks, both the Woodland Christian boys and girls varsity basketball teams are primed and ready to begin the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division V playoffs, set to begin on Tuesday.

Girls team >> The Cardinals (23-5, 14-0 Sierra Delta League) just wrapped up their regular season with an undefeated league record thanks to an emphatic senior night win over Mesa Verde this past Thursday night.

For their troubles, the girls were rewarded the CIF SJS D5 No. 2 overall seed, meaning they will host playoff games all the way through to the Section finals set for Saturday, Feb. 28.

They tip off their playoff journey on Tuesay when they host No. 15 seed Aspire Langston Hughes Academy for a first-round matchup. Langston Hughes Academy earned a playoff berth after finishing in second place in the Central California Athletic Alliance this past season.

If the Cardinals advance to the quarterfinals, they will host either No. 7 seed Destiny Charter Academy or No. 10 seed Western Sierra Collegiate Academy on Thursday, Feb. 20.

If they advance past that, they would likely host either No. 3 seed Argonaut or No. 6 seed Ripon Christian in the semifinals set for Tuesday, Feb. 25. In the Section finals, the Cardinals would likely face off against No. 1 seed in D5 Brett Harte, or No. 4 seed Fortune Early College. That game would be set for Friday, Feb. 28, at a neutral site.

Boys team >> The Cardinals (23-5, 14-0 SDL) ripped off 17 straight wins to end their season as the No. 1 overall seed in the CIF SJS D5 bracket.

Their first-round matchup, set for this Wednesday, will be against the winner of Tuesday’s D5 play-in game between No. 16 seed Vanguard Collegiate Academy or No. 17 seed Mariposa County. If they advance to the quarterfinals, set for Friday, Feb. 21, they will host either No. 8 seed Western Sierra Collegiate Academy or No. 9 seed Bradshaw Christian.

In the semifinals set for Tuesday, Feb. 25, the Cardinals would likely face off against No. 4 seed Brett Harte or No. 5 seed Futures. If they make it to the section title game set for Friday, Feb. 28, they would likey face off against the No. 2 seed Argonaut or No. 3 seed Fortune Early College.
