Local crews to help fight California fires
A Mountain View Fire Rescue crew and a Boulder Fire-Rescue crew were called Friday to help fight Los Angeles area wildfires that have caused tens of thousands to evacuate in recent days.
Boulder Fire-Rescue plans to send a brush track specifically used to fight wildfires with four firefighters as part of a “strike team” from Colorado, according to a press release. MVFR plans to send a brush truck and four firefighters as well, said spokesman Rick Tillery.
Boulder Fire-Rescue spokeswoman Jamie Barker wrote that five engines and crew members from different Front Range departments will be driving to California to bolster response efforts, according to the release. First responders from Colorado could spend up to two weeks helping suppress wildfires that have destroyed thousands of homes in southern California.

Vacant King Soopers to house fitness center
The former King Soopers building at Baseline Road and U.S. 287 in Lafayette is not expected to stay vacant much longer.
VASA Fitness is expected to move into the space, according to Lafayette Communications Director Debbie Wilmot and City Administrator Kady Doelling.
VASA Fitness is a fitness club and gym with multiple membership options. VASA Fitness representatives did not respond to requests for comment.
In October 2024, a new King Soopers store opened in Erie along U.S. 287 and Arapahoe Road at the Nine Mile Corner commercial complex. With the opening of a new location less than half a mile away, the Lafayette store closed, one day prior to the launch of the new store.
