The San Jose Sharks on Wednesday traded forward Thomas Bordeleau to the New Jersey Devils for forward Shane Bowers.

Bordeleau, once viewed as a big part of the Sharks’ future after he was a second-round draft pick by the team in 2020, had 18 points in 44 career NHL games with San Jose, as he spent most of his tenure with the organization in the AHL. Over three-plus seasons with the Barracuda, Bordeleau had 107 points in 161 regular-season games,

Bordeleau, 23, was given a qualifying offer by the Sharks on Monday and is a restricted free agent.

Bowers, 25, had 17 points in 65 games with the AHL’s Utica Comets last season, and appeared in four games with the Devils.

Bowers, listed at 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds, is entering the second year of a two-year, $1.55 million contract. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

Bowers was selected 28th overall by the Ottawa Senators in 2017. Despite that higher profile, he has played in just 13 career NHL games, including 12 with the Devils.

Bowers, though, should get an opportunity to compete for a depth roster spot with the Sharks, who appear to have some jobs available for fourth-line roles.

“We’re excited to add a former first-round pick in Shane to our organization,” Sharks general manager Mike Grier said in a statement. “He brings good size, strong skating, and competes at both ends of the ice.”

Regenda re-signed >> The Sharks announced Wednesday that they’ve re-signed forward Pavol Regenda to a one-year, two-way contract. Per PuckPedia, Regenda’s deal is worth the league minimum $775,000 at the NHL level.

The 6-foot-4, 212-pound Regenda was acquired by the Sharks from the Anaheim Ducks last season and had 25 points in 36 regular-season games. He also had three goals in six regular-season playoff games. For his AHL career, Regenda has 100 points in 176 games.
