INDIANAPOLIS >> Alex Palou became the first driver from Spain to win the Indianapolis 500 by holding off former Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Marcus Ericsson over the closing laps Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Palou, who has won three IndyCar titles in four years — including the last two, came to the speedway with four wins through the first five races this season. But it was No. 6, “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” that he had circled on his calendar.
Without an Indy 500 win, Palou said his career resume would never be complete.
Palou stopped the car just beyond the Yard of Bricks, climbing out of it. He jumped down and took off in a run down the front stretch, pulling off his gloves and tossing them.

Giants beat Nationals >> Robbie Ray pitched six strong innings to improve to 7-0, Sam Huff homered and the San Francisco Giants hung on to beat the Nationals 3-2 and take two of three at Washington.
Ray allowed a run on three hits and struck out seven without a walk, lowering his ERA to 2.56.
The AL Cy Young Award winner in 2021 with Toronto, Ray became the second Giants pitcher in the past 30 years to start a season 7-0 after Kevin Gausman did it in 2021. The Giants are 10-1 in Ray’s starts.

Ondrej Lingr’s entry pass from the right side was deflected by San Jose’s Vítor Costa but Andrade pushed it inside the left post.
