From 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, you can mingle with the creative people of Renegade Theater to celebrate their first year on stage. If you’ve been looking for an excuse to get dressed to the nines, then the glamorous “Renegade Encore” gala may be just your ticket to elegance.

It will be a night of socializing, eating, drinking and taking in some live entertainment. From 7 to 8:30, you can graze some delicious hors d’oeuvres while teen actors from Renegade Theater perform songs from their first two musicals “Be More Chill” and “Guys and Dolls,” followed by select ballads by the adult cast from the “Heathers” musical and even a preview of their upcoming musical production of “Cabaret.” There will also be a silent auction with an assortment of items to bid on while you indulge in decadent dessert plates.

The food is being prepared by Molly Bravo’s Wylder Space catering. Bravo’s delicious fare will be accompanied by an assortment of red, white and sparkling wines courtesy of Riboli Family of San Antonio Winery in Paso Robles. There will also be non-alcoholic beverages available for non-drinkers or those participating in “Dryuary” or Dry January. As it is a gala event, guests are encouraged to wear something nice, although there is no official dress code.

At 8:30 p.m., a small cast will perform the one-act, 15-minute musical “21 Chump Street,” written by none other than Lin-Manuel Miranda. This satirical short play follows the misfortune of a youth who falls in love with an undercover officer, a play on the ’80s TV show “21 Jump Street.”

As with all of Miranda’s creations, this musical promises to be witty and original with smart lyrics and catchy show tunes. Come and see what Renegade does with this fun mini show.

Following the musical, the live auction will commence and you will have a chance to place bids against other elegantly dressed patrons also vying for goods, and the chance to support local theater. It is a fundraising event, after all, so the evening’s proceeds will go to help fund the upcoming season of plays Renegade is producing.

In February, the theater company will open its 18-and-older production of “Cabaret,” in May they will be showing “Alice By Heart” and come June they will be performing “Mutually Assured Destruction.” Your ticket also buys you entrance into a raffle for two season tickets to Renegade Theater.

So there you have it, Renegade Encore is an anniversary gala event to celebrate the Renegade Theater Company’s first year in existence, hosted at Temple Beth El at 3055 Porter Gulch Road, Aptos. Admission is $70. To purchase a ticket, visit: renegadetheaterco.org/index.html.
