The Dallas Stars acquired center Mikael Granlund and defenseman Cody Ceci from the San Jose Sharks on Saturday in the latest in a flurry of trades around the NHL.

Dallas sent a 2025 first-round pick and a conditional third-round pick to San Jose for Granlund and Ceci just over a week before the league takes a break for the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament. The pick becomes a fourth-rounder if the Stars miss the Stanley Cup Final.

“We are excited to welcome both Mikael and Cody to Dallas,” Stars GM Jim Nill said. “We see both players as addressing immediate needs for our team. Mikael is a proven scorer who will bolster our forward group at both even strength and on the power play, and Cody will add a stabilizing and physical presence to our blueline. Both players will bring valuable postseason experience to our group, and we are looking forward to seeing their contributions to the Stars as the season continues.”

Granlund, 32, the Sharks leading scorer, gives the banged-up Stars some dependable depth down the middle with Tyler Seguin out long term following hip surgery. The 31-year-old Ceci also provides much-needed help on the blue line with No. 1 defenseman Miro Heiskanen considered week to week with a lower-body injury.

MILLER HOT IN RETURN TO NY: J.T. Miller’s return to the New York Rangers got off to a fast start with two goals in a 6-3 loss to the Boston Bruins, a day after he was acquired in a trade from Vancouver.

“It feels nice to chip in,” Miller said of his two goals. “I’ve been pretty snakebit for most of the year, especially lately. I guess to see one go in is nice, and obviously first game back was a little extra special, for sure.”

The Rangers got the 31-year old Miller and a pair of defensemen from the Canucks for center Filip Chytil, defenseman Victor Mancini and a 2025 conditional draft pick.

He said he got to Boston around 3 a.m.

“It’s kind of like a numb feeling,” Miller said, sitting at his locker after packing his things in his old Canucks equipment bag. “It’s definitely been a long 24 hours.”

Miller was originally drafted by the Rangers in 2011.
