No. 1 Texas rolls past Mississippi State

AUSTIN, Texas>> Arch Manning passed for two touchdowns and ran for another score, and Texas got another standout performance from its defense to earn a victory over Mississippi State.

Manning was 26-of-31 passing for 324 yards in his second consecutive start in place of Quinn Ewers, who is still recovering from a strained abdomen.

Manning’s 49-yard touchdown pass to Deondre Moore in the second quarter, and his 1-yard TD run in the third, opened up a tighter-than-expected matchup with the Bulldogs.

NO. 3 OHIO STATE 38, MICHIGAN STATE>> Jeremiah Smith had a 19-yard touchdown run and made a one-handed, 17-yard catch for a score in the second quarter, helping Ohio State pull away and rout Michigan State.

NO. 9 PENN STATE 21, NO. 19 ILLINOIS 7>> Nick Singleton ran for 102 yards and a touchdown, Kaytron Allen added 94 yards and a score and Penn State pulled away in the second half to beat Illinois.

No. 12 MICHIGAN 27, MINNESOTA 24>> Kalel Mullings rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns as the Wolverines held on to the Little Brown Jug with a 27-24 win in the rain against the Gophers. Michigan led 24-3 going into the fourth quarter, but Minnesota scored three touchdowns to pull within 27-24 with 1:37 left.

The Gophers recovered the onside kick but were flagged for offsides. Mullings grabbed the second kick.

No. 13 SOUTHERN CAL 38, WISCONSIN 21>> Miller Moss threw two of his three touchdown passes to Ja’Kobi Lane, and the Trojans rallied from an 11-point deficit in the second half for a 38-21 victory over Wisconsin.

Lane caught 10 passes for 105 yards, while Duce Robinson scored the Trojans’ go-ahead touchdown with 1:28 left in the third quarter on another sharp throw from Moss, who passed for 308 yards.

No. 14 LSU 42, South Alabama 10>> Garrett Nussmeier threw for a career-high 409 yards, Caden Durham had 217 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns and No. 14 LSU piled up a season-high 667 yards of offense in a 42-10 win over South Alabama on Saturday night.

NO. 17 CLEMSON 40, STANFORD, 14>> Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik threw for four touchdowns and ran for another and the Tigers’ defense had three interceptions in their win over Stanford. The win was the 173rd for coach Dabo Swinney, who tied the Florida State’s Bobby Bowden for most victories with an ACC school.

NO. 18 IOWA State 20, HOUSTON 0>> Rocco Becht threw for 153 yards and a touchdown, Abu Sama III ran for 101 yards and a touchdown and Iowa State beat Houston. Iowa State improved to 4-0 for the first time since 2000.

No 21 OKLAHOMA 27, AUBURN 21>> Kip Lewis returned an interception 61 yards for the game-winning touchdown, and Oklahoma rallied from an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat Auburn for its first Southeastern Conference win.

No. 22 BYU 34, BAYLOR 28>> Crew Wakley had a game-clinching interception with 59 seconds left as the Cougars held on to remain undefeated, after the Cougars had twice built three-touchdown leads as Jake Retzlaff threw for two scores and ran for another one.

No. 24 TEXAS A&M 21, ARKANSAS 17>> Le’Veon Moss was banged up and bottled up with the Aggies down three points in the fourth quarter of the final scheduled neutral-site game against Arkansas at the home of the Dallas Cowboys.
