Watsonville High and host Aptos played to a scoreless tie in nonleague boys soccer action on Wednesday night.

Roberto Moya missed a good scoring chance in the first few minutes for Watsonville (0-1-4).

Mariners coach Roberto Zuniga believes his team had possession 60% of the match. The Mariners were unable to capitalize on any of their six corner kicks.

Goalkeeper Adrian Fernandez made seven saves for the Wildcatz. Senior Noah Curran made six for the Mariners.

Zuniga praised his defense for its play and also lauded center defensive midfielder Nami Banks for his continued effort.

“(He) is the backbone of this very young team,” Zuniga said.

The Wildcatz entered having scored seven goals in their previous three matches, but all three ended in draws.

“I felt we played our best game, but couldn’t score,” Wildcatz coach Roland Hedgpeth said.

Watsonville hosts North Monterey County (2-4-0) on Friday at 5:45 p.m.Aptos (4-1-1) competes at the SoCal Classic in Encinitas on Dec. 27-28 and 30. The Mariners open play in the Elitie Division against host San Dieguito Academy (1-3-3) on Dec. 27 at 6 p.m.

Women’s basketball

Siskiyous 70, at Cabrillo 41 >> Freshman forward Gabby Brooks scored 17 points, but the Seahawks saw their three-game win streak come to a close Wednesday.

Sophomore guard Jade Crum scored nine points for Cabrillo (9-4), which trailed 30-23 at the half. Sophomore forward Renee Parker scored eight points.

Cabrillo played without freshman guard Sydney Chesnut, who was sidelined by an ankle injury.

Seahawks coach Tony Marcopulos was ejected with 2:51 remaining after receiving two technical fouls. Marcopulos will sit out his team’s next game. Assistant coach Gus Indarose will make his head coaching debut Friday, when the Seahawks play at Redwoods (5-7) in Eureka at 1 p.m.

Sophomore guard Tatum Allen made six 3-pointers and scored 22 points for the Eagles (9-5). Sophomore guard/forward Grace Hubbard scored 11 points.

At Pacific 68, UC Santa Cruz 55 >> Freshman guard Emilie Ngo scored 20 points in the Banana Slugs’ loss in Forest Grove, Oregon, on Wednesday.

Ngo also had four assists, two rebounds and two steals. Teammate Claire Galbo, a freshman forward out of Los Gatos, had nine points, seven rebounds, and blocked five shots. Sophomore guard Alyssa Jackson scored eight points.

Lindsay Barden scored 16 points for the Boxers (3-5). Emily Holsan had 14 points and nine rebounds, and reserve Anya Henderson had 12 points and nine rebounds in 30 minutes off the bench.

UCSC (4-9) plays at George Fox (7-1) in Newberg, Oregon, on Friday at 6 p.m.

Men’s basketball

At Redlands 91, UCSC 85 >> Graduate student Ian McCloskey made five 3-pointers and scored a career-high 26 points, but the Banana Slugs’ rally fell short in their loss Wednesday.

Joseph Espy had 19 points and 14 rebounds for UCSC (7-7), which trailed 50-33 at the half. It was his second double-double of the season.

Reserve Caden Breznikar had 11 points and nine rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench.

Jake Hlywiak scored a team-high 18 points for Redlands (7-2). He was one of six Bulldogs to reach double figures in scoring. Teammate Jhace Boston had 10 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals.

UCSC plays Puget Sound (4-3) on Dec. 28 at 6 p.m.

Girls soccer

At Pajaro Valley 4, Monterey 2 >> Senior forward/midfielder Valeria Acosta scored a hat trick in the first 31 minutes, and the Grizzlies won their nonleague match Wednesday.

Leslie Carrisoza had a goal, on a 40-yard shot with two minutes remaining, and an assist for Pajaro Valley (5-1-0).

Acosta scored on a corner kick from junior Scarlet Gomez in the third minute.

Monterey tied the score 1-all in the 25th minute, but, three minutes later, Acosta finished off a through ball from Scarlet Gomez.

Acosta struck again in the 31st minute, when she scored on a back line pass from Carrisoza.

Monterey scored again and trailed 3-2 at the half.

Goalie Kendra Rivas made eight saves for the Grizzlies, who host Watsonville (1-1-2) on Saturday at noon.

Scotts Valley 1, at Watsonville 1 >> The Wildcatz’s Jackeline Cano scored on a free kick from outside the box in the 60th minute to earn a draw in the teams’ nonleague match at EA Hall Middle School on Wednesday.

Sophomore midfielder Lauren Lima finished off a free kick from senior midfielder Jordan Ericson in the 20th minute.

Junior goalie Jazzy Phillips made multiple saves for the Falcons (3-1-3), who play at The King’s Academy (0-3-1) in Sunnyvale on Jan. 7 at 5 p.m.

Girls basketball

St. Francis 46, at San Lorenzo Valley 16 >> Junior guard Natalie Stott made three 3-pointers and scored a game-high 19 points in the Sharks’ nonleague win in Felton on Wednesday. She also made three steals.

Freshman guard Liliana Whitmeyer and sophomore guard Maya Calfee filled out the stat sheet for the Sharks (4-0).

Whitmeyer had 11 points, 12 steals, four blocks, and three assists, and Calfee had 12 points, seven rebounds, five steals, four blocks, and three assists. Sophomore guard Sophie Madrigal chipped in four points, two steals and two rebounds.

The Cougars dropped to 7-4.

St. Francis plays at Rancho San Juan (4-3) on Friday at 7 p.m.
