Sandra Levitt 1931 - 2025 Sandra Levitt lived a life filled with adventure, curiosity, and a deep appreciation for the world around her. Born in 1931 in Newark, New Jersey, to Jeanette and Benjamin Levitt, Sandra carried a spirit of exploration that took her across the country and beyond.
From the rolling hills of Los Angeles to the intellectual haven of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and the open landscapes of Colorado, she embraced each place as part of her journey.
From an early age, Sandra enjoyed dancing and acting. She pursued her love of the arts at the University of New Mexico before earning her degree in Theater Arts at UCLA. Sandra also had an eye for beauty and excitement-her early love of sports cars reflected the energy and enthusiasm with which she approached life.
Sandra's passion for understanding people and their stories led her to further her education in social work. For over 30 years, she worked as a social worker in hospitals in Boston.
Although the work could be difficult, she found purpose in meaningfully affecting the lives of others. And she always managed to stay involved in amateur dance and theater productions throughout Boston.
A true citizen of the world, Sandra's love of travel took her across many continents. In her youth, she lived on a kibbutz in Israel, embracing the communal lifestyle. She spent two years in France and a year in Italy, immersing herself in the language and culture. Her adventurous spirit led her to Croatia, Greece, England, Holland, Turkey, Russia, Czechoslovakia, Thailand, India, Cuba and beyond, always seeking new experiences and connections. Even when she was in her 70s, she joined volunteer trips to build homes in various countries, including the Cook Islands and Mexico.
After she retired, Sandra decided to move to Colorado to be closer to family, and in particular, to her brother Paul, who lives in Boulder. She initially moved to Jamestown, until her home was destroyed after the 2013 flood. She then moved to Salida to be closer to her boyfriend, Alex Drummond. She and Alex subsequently moved back to Boulder.
Sandra was deeply loved by her family and friends. She shared a special bond with her brother, Paul, and was a cherished aunt and great aunt to Andrea, Stefan, Scot, Erica, Daniel, Emily, Jessa, Eliza, Amy, Mathew and Ivan. She also found companionship and joy with her loving boyfriend, Alex.
To all who knew her, Sandra was a woman of warmth, wisdom, and boundless curiosity, always eager to learn, explore, and discuss politics. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered for her vibrant spirit, her love of adventure, and her passion for the arts.
