Corita “Joan” (Watson) Costa, 88, passed away peacefully at home on May 1, 2025.

Joan was born December 9, 1936, in Colfax, Washington to Retia and Edward Watson.

Joan is survived by her sons, Domenic (Pam), James (Mary) and Peter (Teresa); daughters, Ann and Sarah; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Jim (Elaine) Busher, niece, Brenda Strong, many cousins, nieces, a nephew, and friends. Joan is preceded in death by her husband, Peter.

Joan attended Barton Hill Elementary, Dana Middle School, and graduated from San Pedro High School as a member of the Winter class of 1954. Joan worked in the insurance industry until 1959 when her first child was born and she became a full-time mother and co-owner/bookkeeper for her husband’s construction company. As a mother, Joan was very active in the Mary Star Elementary School PTA and Mary Star High School Football Booster Program. Later in life, she obtained her broker’s license and sold real estate.

Joan and her husband Peter enjoyed spending time in their second home in Avalon, Catalina. She delighted in cooking and baking for her expanding family. She also loved quilting, reading and gardening. Over the years, she created and sewed her grandchildren’s Halloween costumes. She was a fixture at her grandchildren’s many school and sporting events throughout the years.

A combined memorial mass for Joan and Peter will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Mary Star of the Sea Church in San Pedro. Private burial will follow.
