What a joy it was to open the Thursday newspaper with some wonderful stories. The front page was a picture of Jayera Griffin, who saved her allowance and collected donations to hold a free wash day for people in need. How heartwarming. On the front page of the sports section was the team picture of Shepard’s softball team and their charity works — Feed My Starving Children project and Polar Plunge for supporting Special Olympics. Truly caring for those in need of help. And then, an anonymous person paid for the girls’ $140 breakfast bill on their work day. How generous. These caring people have shown by example their compassion and love for mankind. I hope more people follow in their footsteps. Congratulations and blessings to you all for the wonderful giving of your help, service and love.

In reply to this country being great because of the Constitution of the United States, I agree. But it should have —and this is my personal opinion — included a statement saying that a revise is needed every century. The new changes could have been implemented without facing the problem we are having now. When writing the Second Amendment back in the 1700s they could not have foreseen automatic weapons being used now. It’s a hot issue now because people want their cake and want to eat it too, meaning that yes, they want to keep weapons for hunting and protection but also to buy assault weapons if they choose but what we have now is we are facing a gun crisis.

I used to be a Chicago school teacher and I know the Chicago school system should have more money than any other school system around here because they certainly didn’t pay us teachers very much. Chicago Public Schools paid the lowest around.

If we spent as much time using our electronics to communicate with elected local, state and U.S. officials as we did texting and on social media, we might get some of them to listen. Of course, we’d also have to get as least as many people to vote in elections as we do who attend their favorite hot dog and pizza places ... Sadly, neither will happen.
