Dyamond Blair wanted to ensure a memorable senior night.

The Andrean guard succeeded.

Blair scored 15 points as the 59ers topped visiting Hobart 72-38 in a Northwest Crossroads Conference game Saturday night.

She helped balanced Andrean (10-0, 3-0) remain undefeated and reach double-digit wins. Sophomore guard Tori Allen had a game-high 19 points, and senior guard/forward Julia Schutz added 12.

The 59ers’ bench erupted when senior guard Autumn Oliver, making her varsity debut, hit a 3-pointer with 1:01 left in the game.

“We got the whole team involved, and everyone had a good game,” Blair said. “I’m really proud.

“I was just dedicated to the team goal. I tried to keep everyone focused on what we needed to do to win.”

A multipronged offense has been a hallmark for Andrean this season. It didn’t catch Hobart coach Tim Feddeler off-guard.

“That’s a very good team,” he said. “They come at you from all angles, and we knew that going in. We just talked about controlling what you can control. We wanted to apply ball pressure, get in our gaps, play good help-side defense and force them to shoot contested shots.

“For the most part, we did that, and they just make shots with hands in their face. If they have hands in their face and they still make shots — like No. 20 (Allen) and No. 3 (Blair) — I told our girls, ‘Just shake their hand and jog back down the court and try to score one yourself.’ They’re so dangerous. You can’t key on one player.”

Asia Donald paced Hobart (4-5, 0-3) with 17 points. After Andrean, which also recognized senior forward Bri Houpt, scored the game’s first eight points, Donald drained a deep 3-pointer with 2:41 left in the second quarter to cut the 59ers’ lead to 22-17.

But Andrean went on an 11-0 run in the final 1:04 of the first half. Schutz, Lauren Colon and Allen each hit a 3-pointer, with Allen’s coming with three seconds left. During the stretch, Colon also grabbed a defensive rebound and fired an outlet pass to Blair for an ahead-of-the-field layup.

“We’re making progress, and we continue to work in practice every day,” Blair said. “We push each other to be better.

“We’ve come a long way. We’re tired of being underrated. We have a point to prove, and this is the year to show everyone we’re a good team.”

The 59ers, who won a sectional title last season for the first time since 2017, are scheduled to play Tuesday at Lake Central and Wednesday against top-ranked Crown Point before a Dec. 29 game at Lafayette Central Catholic.

“We’re going to have three big tests ahead of us,” Andrean coach Tony Scheub said. “We’ll figure out where we are.

“We’ve been playing well, but we didn’t play particularly well (Saturday). We have to play with energy.”

Despite the loss, Feddeler has been encouraged by the Brickies’ performance.

“We’ve played very well the last couple of games, and I’m very proud of our effort,” he said. “We got better against a very good team. We learned some things, and we’ll be better moving forward.”
