



Andrew Ferrara-Jones drained the game-winning 3-pointer with 17 seconds left, and the UC Santa Cruz men’s basketball team beat Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 67-64 at Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz on Friday night.
Ferrara-Jones finished with 17 points, five rebounds, and three assists. He made three 3-pointers.
Zino Okah made three 3s, scored 14 points and had three rebounds for UCSC (4-2 overall). Ryan Wilson made three 3s and scored 13 points and had three rebounds. Joseph Espy had 11 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.
AJ Rohosy had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Stags (2-2). Caelan Jones had 13 points and eight rebounds, and Neil Owens scored 10 points.
UCSC shot 47.2% (25 of 53) from the field, and was outrebounded 37-25.
UCSC hosts Whitman (2-1) at KP Arena on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Feather River 84, Cabrillo 75 >> Freshman guard Walzel Evans scored 18 points, but the Seahawks lost their semifinal game at the Shasta Tournament on Friday.
Guard Max Parmigiani scored 15 points for Cabrillo, forward Dai’shaun Buie scored 13 points, and guard Skylarr Redwood chipped in with 10 points.
“We made too many mistakes against a good team and you can’t win games when you don’t do the little things,” Seahawks coach James Page said. “Too many turnovers, gave up too many offensive rebounds, and missed too many free throws to get it done tonight.”
Cabrillo (3-2) plays Foothill (1-4) for third place on Saturday at noon.
NBA G League
At Salt Lake City 101, Santa Cruz 99 >> Forward Kevin Knox II scored 20 points, but the Warriors lost their series opener against the Stars in the teams’ NBA G League game at the Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah, on Friday night.
Guard Yuri Collins scored nine points and recorded a career-best 14 assists for the Warriors (2-3). Two-way center Quinten Post four 3-pointers in the first half and scored 19 points. In his first game back from injury, two-way guard Reece Beekman recorded 13 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists off the bench.
Guard Max Abmas made five 3-pointers, scored a game-high 24 points, and made eight assists for the Stars (3-3). Two-way center Oscar Tshiebwe recorded 10 points and 19 rebounds.
Two-way forward David Jones, two-way forward Micah Potter, and guard Isaiah Wong rounded out the scoring for the home team, recording 17 points, 14 points, and 11 points, respectively.
Women’s basketball
At Cal Lutheran 60, UCSC 56 >> Jenna Gorton and Ariel Anderson posted double-doubles in the Banana Slugs’ loss Friday.
Gorton finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Anderson had 11 points and 11 rebounds.
UCSC’s Alexa Litchev had 16 points and seven rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench. Emilie Ngo had seven points, three rebounds, and six assists for the Banana Slugs, and Claire Galbo had six points and nine rebounds.
The Banana Slugs outrebounded the Regals 45-35, but shot 17.2% (5 of 29) from beyond the arc.
Aliya DiMuro had 15 points and eight rebounds for the Regals (2-0), and Alline Ballard had nine points and 12 rebounds.
UCSC (1-5) plays at Occidental (2-3) in Los Angeles on Sunday at 2 p.m.
