John Stuart Fowler (1929-2024) passed away at home after a journey with dementia and congestive heart failure. He was cared for lovingly in the last few years by his family and caregivers.

John was born in Harrogate, Yorkshire, England in 1929 when the daffodils were in bloom. He loved Harrogate and was a Yorkshireman until the end. John was a Boy Scout and during the war was a fitness trainer in the British Army.

After the war, John met Lilo Kempka in Harrogate and it was love at first sight. John and Lilo married in 1952 and had two children.

John worked in physical education in England, becoming a leading proponent of Movement Education for children, and he brought that with him when he emigrated with his family to America in 1967. John taught Math at Mitchell High School in Colorado Springs for a year and then PE for BVSD for a year. He then was hired at CU, where he earned his master's and doctorate degrees. He taught in the Kinesiology department and gave many workshops in Movement Education.

He wrote a book on that topic and received many awards. At the end of his tenure at CU he was the Academic Director at Sewall Hall. He retired from CU in 1991 and enjoyed time with his grandchildren and traveling with his wife.

John was a life-long learner and physical exercise enthusiast.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Lilo, whom he missed ever y day, his parents, and his brother George. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Graham Fowler (Lauri) and Rosemary Lohndorf (Greg). He is also survived by his grandchildren Grace (Andrew), Alec (Julia) and Emma Fowler, Sara Ibarra, and David Lohndorf (Chelsea), Chelsea's son, his two great-granddaughters who loved to visit their Pa, and cousins, nieces and a nephew in England.

In his last days John loved to sit with his cup of Yorkshire tea and look at his English garden and view of the Flatirons with Diana Krall playing in the background. He enjoyed his family and caregivers' visits, music, British shows on PBS and tennis.
