


Freja Werth scored a game-high 24 points to lead the University of San Francisco to a 75-66 win over Loyola Marymount in the third round of the West Coast Conference women’s basketball tournament in Las Vegas on Saturday.
The Dons (15-15, 11-9 WCC) will face No. 4-seeded Oregon State today at 11:30 a.m. in the quarterfinals at Orleans Arena.
Werth, the Dons’ leading scorer this season (17.1), continued her recent hot streak and has now scored at least 20 points in three consecutive games.
USF’s Emma Trawally Porta had 13 points and nine rebounds, and teammate Angeliki Ziaka also scored 13 points.
San Francisco won despite scoring just one field goal in the last eight minutes of the game. The Dons, however, did go 10 for 10 at the free-throw line over the final three minutes as both Werth and Luana Leite made all four of their free throws.
Naudi Evans led Loyola Marymount (14-16, 7-13) with 18 points, including four 3-pointers.
Pacific eliminates Saint Mary’s >> Elizabeth Elliott scored a game-high 21 points as Pacific (15-17, 9-11 WCC) knocked off Saint Mary’s 75-59 in another WCC third-round game in Las Vegas.
The Gaels (14-16, 10-10) got a strong game from Hayward’s Kennedy Johnson, who had 13 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks.
The Tigers will face Washington State in a quarterfinal game today at 2:30 p.m. at Orleans Arena.
