Thomas L. Dudley, age 84, of Commerce Township Michigan, passed away on March 30, 2024 after a short illness.

He was born on April 22, 1939 in Highland Park. He was the son of John C. and Ruth M. (Mattingly) Dudley.

Tom attended St. Benedict School in Highland Park. He entered the Navy in 1963 and was stationed in the Mediterranean aboard the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Shangri-La. After receiving an honorable discharge, Tom returned to Michigan and joined the Highland Park Fire Department serving that community for five years. In 1970 he began his long career with the Southfield Fire Department. In 1972, he was selected to be in the first group of paramedics in Southeast Michigan. He moved through the ranks and became the training officer for the fire cadet program for the department. He retired as a Captain after 25 years with the Fire Department.

Tom enjoyed 28 years of retirement. He was a devoted and proud grandfather of seven. He cherished spending time with them as their “Grumpa.” In retirement, he traveled, enjoyed collecting firefighting memorabilia, working in his yard and spoiling his dogs, Lady and Mocha.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Anne (Morrow).

He was a loving father to his daughter, Mary Beth Dudley, his daughter, Margaret Dudley Kotula (Mark), and his son, Dr. Matthew Dudley (Alice).

He was the grandfather (“Grumpa”) to Matthew and Grace Houghton, Daniel, Katie, and Tommy Kotula, and Kaitrin and Aoife Dudley. He is also survived by his sister, Janet Foster and brother, James Dudley. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings, John, William, Joanne, and Jean. He was the uncle and grand uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was a great friend and neighbor to many. 8 Tom | B will be sorely missed by all.

CLASSIFIE Celebration of his life will be held Sunday, June 9, from 2-8PM at A.J. Desmond & Sons 2600 Crooks Rd. Troy (248) 362-2500. Final resting place Great Lakes National Cemetery Holly, Michigan.
