Yolo County’s first-ever children’s museum, the MOSAIC Children’s Museum, is thrilled to celebrate its first anniversary next week with a party set for Friday, Jan. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Since opening in December 2023 at 120 Main St., Suite D in Woodland, the museum has welcomed over 6,000 visitors in 2024, making it a cornerstone of the community’s early childhood enrichment, according to a MOSAIC press release.

To mark this exciting milestone, MOSAIC Children’s Museum reflects on its accomplishments and looks ahead with plans for a bold new chapter. Over the past year, the museum has introduced members-only events, expanded its services to host children’s birthday parties, contributed to many community events, and partnered with local organizations to promote inclusion as a core value.

All of this has been made possible thanks to the dedication of its 20+ volunteers.

“We couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve achieved in just one year,” stated President Sarah Pleski. “As a 100% volunteer-based organization, the support of this incredible community has made our mission possible. We look forward to continuing to inspire creativity and connection for years to come.”

Looking ahead, MOSAIC Children’s Museum is excited to announce the return of its annual fundraiser golf tournament, scheduled for May 10. The event promises to bring the community together for “fun, fundraising, and a shared vision for the museum’s growth.”

MOSAIC Children’s Museum invites families and supporters to celebrate this milestone by visiting its space, which offers hands-on recreational activities for children aged 1 to 7. The MOSAIC Children’s Museum had been in the works to open for several years, enduring a two-year pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic and an extended search for a home. In December 2023, the museum enjoyed a quiet, soft opening.

It then later held its grand opening and debut to the Woodland community on Feb. 15, 2024, welcoming community members, financial supporters, Yolo County and city of Woodland civic leaders, and, of course, children.

“What are children’s museums? What they are not are drop-off daycare facilities, but instead, children’s museums are places meant for co-exploration,” a MOSAIC press release stated. “Parent or guardian and child, exploring and playing together, discussing and finding out why one ball rolls down at one speed, and other races and catches up with the other. The child and co-explorer bond and learn about their world by playing and having fun together.”
