The Riverside Philharmonic will continue its 2022-23 season with a performance in downtown Riverside on Saturday.
The show takes its title, “With Mirth and Laughter,” from William Shakespeare’s “The Merchant of Venice,” a news release states.
Music director Tomasz Golka said in the release that he chose the phrase “to refer to the eternal sense of humor of the composers on the program, especially Mozart, Beethoven, and St. Georges — all of whom never lost their comedic charm, even in the most difficult periods of their lives.”
The concert will include “Ciranda das Sete Notas,” by Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos. It also will feature principal bassoonist Duncan Massey. The performance will conclude with Mozart’s “29th Symphony.”
The 7:30 p.m. show is at the Riverside City College Henry W. Coil Sr. and Alice Edna Coil School for the Arts concert hall. Doors open at 6 p.m.
