Top-ranked tennis player Jannik Sinner has accepted a three-month ban in a settlement with the World Anti-Doping Agency over his two positive doping tests.

WADA had challenged a decision last year by the International Tennis Integrity Agency not to suspend Sinner for what it judged was accidental contamination by a banned anabolic steroid last March.

Sinner’s explanation — that trace amounts of Clostebol in his doping sample was due to a massage from a trainer who used the substance after cutting his own finger — had been accepted.

The 23-year-old Italian, who won the Australian Open in January, will be eligible to compete in the next Grand Slam. The French Open begins May 25.

Hockey

Sweden tops Finland >> Mikael Granlund scored the overtime winner, and Finland beat Sweden 4-3 in an instant classic, back-and-forth game between the bitter rivals at the 4 Nations Face-Off.

Granlund scored 1:49 into 3-on-3 OT, sending fans in Finland’s blue and white at Bell Centre to the exits cheering and chanting, “Suomi!”

Anton Lundell and Mikko Rantanen also scored for Finland, and Kevin Lankinen made 21 saves in his debut at the NHL-run international tournament, including a pad stop on Mika Zibanejad seconds into overtime.

Baseball

Ohtani throws first bullpen of Spring Training >> Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani threw his first bullpen of spring training, taking a step toward possibly pitching for the first time since 2023.

Ohtani has not pitched in the big leagues since Aug. 23, 2023, with the Angels. The right-hander later had elbow surgery that limited him to a hitting role during his first season with the Dodgers in 2024.

Men’s basketball

Duke 106, Stanford 70 >> Tyrese Proctor scored 23 points, Cooper Flagg contributed 19 points, six assists and five rebounds, and No. 3 Duke beat Stanford.

Maxime Raynaud led Stanford (16-10, 8-7) with 19 points and seven rebounds.
