Tiger Woods isn’t the only member of his family who can produce big moments. His 15-year-old son Charlie made his first ace Sunday in the PNC Championship in Orlando, Fla.
Woods was more excited than if he had made the hole-in-one himself.
“That was the thrill of a lifetime to be able to have that moment with Charlie, make his first hole-in-one,” Woods said.
Charlie Woods hit 7-iron from 175 yards on the par-3 fourth hole at the Ritz-Carlton Club Orlando during the final round of the tournament that pairs mostly major champions with family members.
It was a key shot in a 15-under 57 in the scramble format and almost enough for the win until Bernhard Langer made an 18-foot eagle putt to beat Team Woods in a playoff.
Charlie Woods didn’t even know the shot went in the hole. A large gallery by the green began wildly cheering, as did another group of fans on the other side of the hole, most of them holding up their index finger — some downward to indicate it went in the hole, some upward to show his score. Television cameras finally confirmed it for him.
“It was awesome having Dad there,” he said. “That was so much fun. It was just a perfect 7-iron, little cut in there. Of course never got to see it go in. So that sucks. But that’s all right.”

Rangers trade Lowe for Nationals’ reliever
The Texas Rangers acquired left-handed reliever Robert Garcia from the Washington Nationals in a trade Sunday for past Gold Glove and Silver Slugger first baseman Nathaniel Lowe.
Garcia had 75 strikeouts and only 16 walks in 59 2/3 innings over 72 appearances for the Nationals last season.
Texas is parting with Lowe after acquiring slugging corner infielder Jake Burger from Miami for three minor league players during the winter meetings two weeks ago.
Lowe hit .265 with 16 homers and 69 RBIs this year for the Rangers, and ranked sixth in the American League with 71 walks. He hit .302 in 2022, then was a Gold Glove winner during the team’s World Series championship season in 2023.
The Nationals were in need of a first baseman and a middle-of-the-order bat, and this deal represents general manager Mike Rizzo’s first acquisition this offseason of a hitter with a track record.
Phillies boost pitching with Marlins’ Luzardo
The Phillies acquired left-hander Jesús Luzardo from the Miami Marlins on Sunday, the team announced.
Miami received two prospects, outfielder Emaarion Boyd and infielder Starlyn Caba.
Luzardo, who has battled various injuries throughout his career, recorded a 5.00 ERA over 12 starts for Miami in 2024 before a lumbar stress reaction ended his season. When the Marlins made the playoffs in 2023, Luzardo made 32 starts and went 10-10 with a 3.58 ERA. He had 208 strikeouts that year with a 30% strikeout rate.

Texans’ injured Dell is released from hospital
Houston Texans receiver Tank Dell has been released after an overnight stay in the hospital and was traveling back to Houston on Sunday after sustaining a severe knee injury in Saturday’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Coach DeMeco Ryans provided the update Sunday, but didn’t have many details beyond his return to Houston.
“Right now, we still will be evaluating to see where he is,” Ryans said. “He’s still meeting with doctors to see what’s next for him. But it is a significant knee injury.”
Dell was injured on a 30-yard touchdown catch in Houston’s 27-19 loss Saturday. He was coming across the back of the end zone and made the spectacular catch on a pass from C.J. Stroud before colliding with Houston teammate Jared Wayne on the way to the ground. Dell immediately grabbed at his knee and Wayne signaled for team trainers, who spent several minutes working on the wide receiver while teammates waited anxiously.
Dell was eventually placed on a stretcher and driven in a covered medical cart off the field, and then he was taken to the hospital.
