May 23, 1924 - December 22, 2024 Irvine, CA Dotty passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2024. She would have been 101 years old in May of this year. She lived a long, fulfilling life and was once asked what her favorite time period had been over the years. She responded, "I loved all of it"! Her positive attitude and zeal for life was always present!
Dotty grew up in the San Rafael area of Pasadena and excelled in school. Summers with her parents, Fred and May and siblings Freddie and Lil were spent at Seal Beach for many years in her youth. After High School, she attended USC as a Math major until America entered the War after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, HI. At this time, she joined the USO to support all the US Service Members involved in the War effort.
After America and our allies won and ended WWI, Mom met Kenton (Mac) MacDavid.
They married in June 1948 and built their home in the Altadena foothills. Both of them worked at JPL until they started a family.
When both sons were in college, Dotty started working at Marshall Fundamental Secondary School in Pasadena. She worked as the secretary of the Principal for four years before transitioning to work as head secretary for Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) superintendent Ramon Cortines and subsequently three other superintendents.
She was also the secretary to the Board of Education for six years.
During her tenure at PUSD, she started to enjoy traveling and ventured on many vacation trips to Europe as well as Hawaii with family and friends. Upon retirement in November of 1991 she had more leisure time to continue traveling and enjoying her life with Mac and family in Altadena. During this time four grandchildren arrived and vacations now included new members of the family.
Dotty was predeceased by Mac who passed away December 2, 1999. She is survived by son, Dan and Anne MacDavid; grandson, Sean MacDavid; son, Mike and Dianna MacDavid; grandson, Zachary and granddaughters, Kelly and Erin MacDavid; niece, Suzi Farrell; and informal adopted son, William Cameron.
Mom will be cremated and her ashes scattered by family members.
