A crash Wednesday night involving a Napa power pole knocked some power lines loose, triggering a large outage and lane closures on one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares.
About 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, a southbound SUV swerved across all lanes of Jefferson Street and grazed a power pole on the east side of the road, just north of Lincoln Avenue, Napa police Cpl. Eric Thompson said. The driver of the vehicle then swerved back onto the road and crashed head-on into a northbound Jeep.
Both drivers said they were in pain but no serious injuries were noted, Thompson said. Both were transported to Providence Queen of the Valley Medical Center.
The driver of the SUV was medically cleared at the hospital and booked into the Napa County jail on suspicion of two misdemeanor DUI charges and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
The initial crash caused many power lines along Jefferson Street to fall onto the road, triggering an outage affecting at least 1,200 Pacific Gas and Electric Co. customers, PG&E spokesperson Jeff Smith said. Crews quickly rerouted customers to restore power Wednesday night and have completed repairs on the damaged power pole as of Thursday morning.
The lanes of Jefferson Street, between Central and Lincoln avenues, were shut down about 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, according to an Alert Napa County message. The lanes were reopened by 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
Some signage was still posted due to power issues with the stoplight in the area, Thompson said.
It was unclear if the lanes were still closed earlier Thursday due to the crash or the stoplight.
