WATSONVILLE >> A driver killed in a solo Highway 1 crash Sunday has been identified as 44-year-old Robert Daley of Watsonville, said the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Daley was traveling southbound on Highway 1, just north of the Buena Vista Drive exit, shortly before midnight, when his vehicle traveled up a dirt embankment for an unknown reason and rolled back onto the road. Daley, who the CHP said was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from his vehicle and died at the scene.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation this week, but CHP investigators believe that alcohol may have been a factor in the accident.
