A Pomona man arrested on suspicion of DUI after a fatal wrong-way crash on the 60 Freeway in Pomona has died, as well as a 1-year-old baby, who was riding in one of the other vehicles, authorities said Tuesday.
Rick Rodriguez, 24, was pronounced dead at around 7 a.m. Sunday, while the child died around 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25, California Highway Patrol Officer Chad Guin said.
The number of fatalities as a result of the Saturday night crash on the westbound 60 Freeway, west of Reservoir Street, has grown to four: Two women died on Saturday.
Rodriguez, in a Honda Accord, was driving east in westbound lanes, the CHP has said. He hit a Civic head-on, spun and also struck a Highlander, the CHP has said.
The Civic’s driver, a 29-year-old Huntington Park woman, and a passenger, a 39-year-old woman, were killed. The child was also a Civic passenger.
Authorities have not yet publicly identified the women and the child. Guin did not know if the three were related.
The Highlander’s driver had minor injuries, Guin said.
