MONTEREY >> A Seaside man was arrested this week after allegedly groping someone in the Macy’s Department Store at the Del Monte Shopping Center.

Diego Aquino, 25, was arrested Wednesday on charges of sexual battery, attempted sexual battery and resisting/obstructing a peace officer, according to a press release from the Monterey Police Department.

Police said that around 5:42 p.m. Wednesday evening, officers were dispatched to a sexual battery that had just occurred in the Del Monte Macy’s.

Aquino had reportedly “groped the victim’s buttocks,” police said.

Upon further investigation, officers also discovered that Aquino had attempted another sexual battery earlier that day. Police said this earlier crime was reported while officers were on the scene at the Del Monte Shopping Center.

Aquino was transported to and booked into the Monterey County Jail. Monterey officers requested a bail enhancement, which was granted and set at $30,000.

As of Friday morning, Aquino was no longer listed in the Monterey County Sheriff’’s Office inmate database.
